Birth of a Book

I'm very pleased to announce the birth of my new book. Or rather the arrival of 34 pupils, 2 part-time teachers, a supply teacher, a teaching assistant - and a very clever class hamster. The book has received some lovely reviews including this Guardian quote from Imogen Russell Williams... Rooney evokes children’s perspectives with empathy: we meet a boy whose “legs don’t walk so he wheels in his chair instead. / And he runs in his head”, and a sufferer from early lovesickness: “I haven’t got a crush. He’s just a boy. I swear he’s just a boy who is my friend … ”. The poignancy and humour of these character sketches are heightened by their illustrations.

I also got a welcome mention from Nicolette Jones in the Sunday Times, too. (See below)

Now, I'm looking forward to introducing A Kid in My Class to you all over the Autumn term. I'll be launching the book at the YLG National Conference, Manchester in September, at The Children's Bookshow, Wolverhampton in October and across schools. Hope you will meet them soon.
