Poetry Project

I have begun 2018 with a new poetry project that will keep me busy over the next 18 months.

I am pleased to say that I now have Arts Council funding to work in partnership with with Limpsfield Grange, Surrey.

Limpsfield Grange is a residential and day school for girls aged 11 -16 with communication and interaction difficulties. The students have a wide range of needs, and many have a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) including Asperger’s Syndrome or High Functioning Autism (HFA).Many students who attend Limpsfield Grange are affected by high and persistent levels of anxiety, which can impact on their ability to engage with everyday activities.

I will be visiting the school for 4 + days each term working with a variety of pupils with the aim to engage them in the reading and writing of poetry- and to work with them in creating an anthology of their poems for a wider audience to access. Alongside this, I will be reflecting on my own experience of ASC and have planned for time to write my own poetry, exploring the themes of difference & identity.

I am currently meeting with every year group to introduce myself and to discuss the poetry project with them. I very much look forward to getting to know all the students through the medium of poetry.
